Lb. Singh et Dk. Singh, EFFECTIVENESS OF SELECTION INDEXES FOR GENETIC ADVANCEMENT IN CARCASSYIELD OF BLACK BENGAL GOATS, Indian Journal of Animal Sciences, 68(7), 1998, pp. 656-658
Selection indices were developed by incorporating 6 traits (pre-slaugh
ter body weight, body length, height at withers, chest-grith paunch-gi
rth and hot-carcass yield) in different combinations to know which and
how many traits combine best in an index that has maximum relative ef
ficiency and genetic progress.for most of the traits. Index no. 17 wit
h pre-slaughter body weight, body length and paunch-girth (3-variates)
was expected to achieve more genetic gain in hot-carcass ;weight (0.6
3 kg) followed by the index no. 16 with per-slaughter weight, length a
nd chest-girth (0.52 kg). But taking into the consideration the R-1H,
Delta Xi and Delta H of all the indices the index no. 19 with pre-slau
ghter weight, length, height and chest-girth (Delta Xi = 0.50 kg for h
ot-carcass yield) ranked first followed by index no 16 with pre-slaugh
ter weight, length and chest-girth.
