Abstract
We construct a Laplacian on a Finsler manifold and a subelliptic opera tor on the associated unitary bundle. Through a Bochner-type formula, under appropriate conditions, a lower bound of the first eigenvalue of these operators is given by means of the horizontal Ricci tensor of t he Berwald connection.
