Dm. Brewis et al., THE EFFECT OF ZIRCONIUM COMPOUNDS ON THE WET SCRUB-RESISTANCE OF EMULSION POLYMER-FILMS, Surface coatings international, 76(10), 1993, pp. 418-422
The addition of zirconium compounds to an emulsion copolymer, and the
consequential casting of a film, leads to large increases in wet scrub
-resistance. Increased tensile strength and modulus, coupled with redu
ced water swelling, contribute to improved wet scrub-resistance and th
ese are ascribed to the effect of zirconium compounds. It is proposed
that Zr(IV) species interact with the surfaces of the particles and th
e interparticulate surfactants.
