Abstract
The addition of zirconium compounds to an emulsion copolymer, and the consequential casting of a film, leads to large increases in wet scrub -resistance. Increased tensile strength and modulus, coupled with redu ced water swelling, contribute to improved wet scrub-resistance and th ese are ascribed to the effect of zirconium compounds. It is proposed that Zr(IV) species interact with the surfaces of the particles and th e interparticulate surfactants.
