Abstract
The values of the R-Fe exchange field and the crystalline-electric-fie ld parameters are evaluated by fitting the calculations to the experim ents for R(2)Fe(17) (R=Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er or Tm). The experiments incl ude the magnetization curves along the crystal axes at 4.2 K for the G d, Tb, Dy, Ho and Er compounds, the energy differences between the ene rgy levels for the Ho ion in Ho2Fe17, and the spin reorientation tempe rature T-SR and the easy-magnetization direction above and below T-SR for Tm2Fe17.
