Zeroth- and first-generation poly(amido)amine dendrimers have been fun
ctionalized with dithiocarbamate end groups and reacted with ruthenium
complexes, to form metallodendrimers. Monomeric ruthenium dithiocarba
mate complexes were also prepared as model compounds and their spectro
scopic data compared with those of the metallodendrimers. The novel co
mpounds were characterized using NMR spectroscopy (H-1 and C-13) and m
ass spectrometry. The compound [Ru(S2CNMe2)(PPh3)(eta(5)-C5H5)] has al
so been characterized crystallographically.
