Mm. Hosmani et Babalad Hb",ganajaxi, PRODUCTION POTENTIAL OF RANGELAND GRASSES IN ASSOCIATION WITH STYLOSANTHES (STYLOSANTHES HAMATA), Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 68(7), 1998, pp. 358-360
A field trial was conducted;luring 1994-95 and 1995-96 at Dharwad to e
valuate the production potential of mixed sward of stylosanthes (Stylo
santhes hamata (L.) Taubert and Stylosanthes scabra J. Vagel) associat
ion with 8 range land grasses. The green forage yield of stylosanthes
species varied during both the years and was significantly higher in S
tylosanthes hamata than in Stylosanthes scabra. Among the range grasse
s Brachiaria decumense staff. (signal), Cenchrus ciliaris (L.) (anjan)
gave higher green forage yield over other during both that years. Tot
al green forage yield of mixed swards with stylosanthes when grown in
association with anjan followed by signal was significantly higher tha
n sole grasses: The dry fodder yield of mixed award was significantly
higher with panicum, anjan and signal compared with other grasses. Gro
wing stylosanthes in association with anjan was superior over the othe
r combinations.
