Pressure effects on CePb3 have been studied by the measurements of the
electrical resistivity, specific heat and magnetic susceptibility. Th
e pressure dependence of the resistivity gives a Gruneisen constant fo
r the Kondo temperature, Omega(TK) similar to 62, which is one of the
largest values in the magnetic heavy fermion compounds. The relation b
etween the Gruneisen constant for the Kondo temperature of the ground
doublet state and that for the whole state of J = 5/2 can be described
in terms of the impurity Kondo model in the presence of the crystal f
ield. The pressure effect on a pure CePb3 is almost equivalent to the
chemical pressure effect in the system of Ce(Pb1-ySny)(3), except for
magnetic ordering. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
