An experimental set-up designed for the investigation of light nuclei
close to the neutron dripline is described. It is built on the basis o
f a broad range magnetic spectrograph having a focal plane detector co
nsisting of a four-section ionization chamber and two position-sensiti
ve proportional counters. The neutron-rich nuclei are studied in heavy
-ion reactions at energies below 18 MeV/u. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B
