Abstract
The clothing industry is traditionally labour-intensive and made up of small-scale businesses. This situation also exists with clothing fact ories in developed countries. This paper reviews the situation of the Hong Kong clothing industry. On the basis of indicators of gross outpu t, value-added, workers' compensation, and fixed-asset investment, the author suggests the optimal operational size of a clothing factory fo r Hong Kong.
