Abstract
This article presents art outline of the high-speed network that forms the Gore of the communications infrastructure under the PHOENIX Proje ct. It describes the highspeed network services being planned, the met hods for achieving them and the network technologies supporting their provision. The service deployment concept is also explained along with various user applications envisioned for these services.
