Efficient monoalkylation of a series of primary and secondary amines w
as demonstrated with the use of N-chloroacetylglycosylamines derived f
rom D-glucose, D-galactose, D-mannose, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, and lac
tose. The reaction was shown to be useful for incorporation of carbohy
drate residues into physiologically active compounds. Glycoconjugates
of some derivatives of piperazine, 2-phenylethylamine, tryptamine, and
important biogenic amines (norephedrine, octopamine, dopamine) were p
repared.
