Abstract
We investigate the geometry of a cosmic string, with a static cylindri
cally symmetric metric expressed in terms of the scalar and gauge fiel
ds. The solutions of the scalar and gauge fields are obtained in a clo
sed form in the case of supermassive strings. The behaviors of the fie
lds in the neighbourhood of the axis of symmetry and in the asymptotic
region are studied.
