Abstract
We have computed the O(alpha(s)) QCD corrections to the transverse spi n dependent structure function g2(c, Q2). The calculation reveals that the Burkhardt-Cottingham sum rule is violated in first order of alpha (s). This result contradicts earlier findings in the literature. Its i mplication in the context of the operator product expansion and the ma ss factorization will be discussed.
