A rusty-leaf mutant was found previously in the cultivated peanut (Ara
chis hypogaea L.). Crosses involving the rusty-leaf genotype were made
both between and within subspecies of A. hypogaea to determine its in
heritance. The F-1, F-2, and F-3 data indicated that two complementary
recessive genes, designated rl(1) and rl(2), control the rusty-leaf c
haracteristic. No maternal or cytoplasmic effects were detected among
progenies from reciprocal hybridization.
