Abstract
This paper deals with heat transfer during short circuiting gas metal arc welding of mild steel. Three major heat sources can be distinguish ed: arc heating of the anode, arc heating of the cathode, and Joule he ating of the electrode extension. Based on these heat sources, a model is presented which describes the heat transfer both to the electrode and to the workpiece. The validity of the model was rested by comparin g predicted values of the heat transfer with experimental darn. Ir app ears that good agreement exists between model and experiment.
