Abstract
A multiple point smoothing algorithm is proposed to smooth a binary im age boundary further based on a previously proposed one point smoothin g algorithm. A new feature extraction method is also presented. The sm oothing and feature extraction algorithms are all based on the chain c odes. The effectiveness of these algorithms is demonstrated with binar y images of handwritten numerals. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All r ights reserved.
