The chemical fixation of carbon dioxide with 1,2-epoxypropane was cata
lysed by tetra-t-butylphthalocyaninatoaluminium(II) acetate, tetra-t-b
utylphthalocyaninatoaluminium (III) trimethylsilanolate and tetra-t-bu
tylphthalocyaninatoaluminium (III) triphenylsilanolate in the presence
of tetrabutylammonium iodide or triethyl(2-hydroxypropyl) ammonium io
dide at room temperature. Propane-1,2-diol carbonate was prepared from
carbon dioxide and 1,2-epoxypropane via a six-membered ring-intermedi
ate. Depending on an axial ligand of the complex, the fixation proceed
ed via an hexacoordinated intermediate (for the complex with chloride
or hydroxide as the axial ligand) or a six-membered ring-intermediate
(for the complex with acetate or silanolate). (C) 1998 Elsevier Scienc
