E. Otero et al., CORROSION BEHAVIOR OF 12CRMOV STEEL IN WASTE INCINERATION ENVIRONMENTS - HOT CORROSION BY MOLTEN CHLORIDES, Oxidation of metals, 49(5-6), 1998, pp. 467-484
The corrosion resistance of a 12CrMo V alloy in contact with a molten
mixture of (52-48) mol.%PbCl2-KCl, similar to that found in waste inci
neration plants, has been studied. The corrosion kinetics have been an
alyzed using continuous-current electrochemical techniques and electro
chemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Studies were performed to deter
mine the influence that temperature and the presence of carbon in the
salt have on the corrosion rate. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) an
d electron-probe microanalysis (EPMA) were used as additional analytic
al techniques to analyze the corrosion products in order to elucidate
the corrosion mechanism.
