Scores of 72 college students on the Environmental Deprivation Scale w
ere correlated with grade point averages and accumulated credit hours.
Significant negative values indicated that high scale scores may be p
redictive of poor academic performance (low GPAs). Further analysis id
entified specific areas for intervention with students at risk for dro
pping out.
