Abstract
The thermodynamics of a two-dimensional vortex plasma in thin-film sup erconductors is described in the framework of a cycle approximation. T he equation for the density of free vortices is obtained from the viri al expansion. This equation provides a unified approach to describe bo th the Kosterlitz-Thouless-like behavior in the vicinity of the charac teristic transition temperature T(KT) and the resistive tail at low te mperatures.
