Abstract
We demonstrate that phonon coherent excitation with ultra short pulses can be ascribed to an impulsive or a spectral mechanism. The resultin g contrary behaviors, that depend inherently on wavelength matching co nditions and exist simultaneously, are revealed and selected using a s pecific detection arrangement.
