The pathogenesis of ABPA is characterized by a heightened Th2 CD4+ aut
ocrine late-phase allergic inflammatory response to A. fumigatus aller
gens in the bronchial airway of patients with atopic asthma and patien
ts with CF. in addition, T-cell responses to A. fumigatus allergens ar
e HLA-DR2 and DR5 and TCR-V restricted in ABPA. The underlying suscept
ibility to develop ABPA versus an asthmatic allergic response to A. fu
migatus allergens, however, is not understood.
