1,2-dialkylcyclopropenes, but not the corresponding 3-carboxycycloprop
ene or cyclopropenone derivatives, react with 1-propanethiol to give a
lkylthiocyclopropanes. None of the cyclopropenes and cyclopropene deri
vatives investigated reacted with other aminoacid chemical probes. The
se overall results support that inhibition of desaturases by cycloprop
ene fatty acids is caused by reaction of the unsaturated moiety with a
