We report observations of some peculiar features of the oscillating ch
emiluminescence in the Ru(bpy)(3)(2+)-catalyzed Belousov-Zhabotinsky r
eaction in a closed system. The chemiluminescence oscillations damp ra
pidly in comparison with the light absorption oscillation of Ru(bpy)(3
)(3+). The chemiluminescence efficiency is dependent on the initial co
ncentrations of reactants. In addition, the shape of chemiluminescence
oscillation exhibits a weak peak or a shoulder. These observations ar
e discussed in relation to the oscillatory behaviors of the absorption
of Ru(bpy)(3)(3+) and the formation of emitting excited state of Ru(b
py)(3)(2+).
