K. Yoshikawa et al., MODE-LOCKING IN COUPLED OSCILLATORS AS IS EXEMPLIFIED IN CHEMICAL ANDHYDRODYNAMIC SYSTEMS, ACH, models in chemistry, 135(3), 1998, pp. 417-423
Simple theoretical consideration on the coupling of neighboring two id
entical oscillators under nonequilibrium open conditions suggests that
there exist two phase-locking modes with in-phase and antiphase. In t
he actual experiment for the coupled oscillators using ion-exchange be
ads in BZ reaction, it is shown that in-phase mode is generated where
the void space between the beads conducts the role of a pacemaker. It
is also shown that both in-phase and anti-phase modes are induced in t
he coupling between two coupled PET-bottle oscillators; synchronizatio
n of the periodic fluid flow in interconnected bottles which are situa
ted upside-down.
