K. Nakamura et S. Ueha, POTENTIAL ABILITY OF ULTRASONIC MOTORS - A DISCUSSION FOCUSED ON THE FRICTION CONTROL MECHANISM, Electronics & communications in Japan. Part 2, Electronics, 81(4), 1998, pp. 57-68
This paper reviews the potential characteristics of ultrasonic motors
from the viewpoint of the friction control mechanism. Various kinds of
principles proposed previously are grouped into two categories: motor
s in which the friction force is controlled temporally and those in wh
ich the friction force is regulated spatially. Focusing on this differ
ence, basic motor characteristics are discussed theoretically and illu
strated experimentally. Problems remaining to be solved by future stud
y are suggested. Some new ideas of non-contact drive by ultrasonic vib
ration are introduced briefly. (C) 1998 Scripta Technica.
