Abstract
Cyclopropanation of substituted phenyl styryl sulfones 1 with dimethyl sulfonium phenacvlides was carried out by two different methods (under PTC catalysis with in situ generation of the ylides and by direct add ition of ylides) to obtain a series of substituted 1-benzenesulfonyl-2 -benzoyl-3-phenylcyclopropanes 2. The PTC method was found to be more facile and efficient. The spectral data of cyclopropanes 2 are discuss ed.
