This contribution describes the dynamics of therapeutic men's groups f
rom the perspective of group analysis (according to Foulkes). The poin
t of departure is the contradictory meaning of the men's group in its
association with male bonding and simultaneously with a space classifi
ed as female (basic matrix). It is shown how men's groups vary in thei
r approach to this contradiction depending on the participants. In add
ition the dynamics of men's groups are described from the point of vie
w of types of communication, dealing with aggression and mourning, and
working on the relationships with women. The discussion of the proces
ses presented makes use of the differentiation of hegemonic and margin
alised maleness set up by Connell.
