Cu2Sb ribbon or whisker crystals, which are produced by the reaction o
f Cu films with Sb evaporated by in situ electron beam heating in an e
lectron microscope, are investigated by high-resolution electron micro
scopy with the aid of image simulation. Whiskers having superstructure
s owing to ordered distributions of Sb vacancies (Cu2.7Sb) and Cu vaca
ncies (Cu1.8Sb), and narrow Sb precipitates are also observed in the w
hiskers.
