Abstract
A differential demodulation fibre optic strain sensing system adapted to the needs of complex materials or smart structures monitoring is pr esented. It is based on low-coherence interferometry in standard singl e mode fibres and has the advantage that it can automatically compensa te for temperature-induced variations in the refractive index and ther mal expansion of the silica fibres.
