Electrochemical method was applied to the redox study of copper oxides
in alkali berate melts of 0.3M(2)O . 0.7B(2)O(3) (M=Li, Na, K, Rb and
Cs). Comparison was also made of the materials of the working electro
de in addition to Pt to elucidate the redox steps. The two peaks of li
near sweep cyclic voltammetry were assigned to Cu(II)/Cu(I) and Cu(I)/
Cu redoxes. The present experimental results combined with the previou
s data on sodium berate over a composition range suggest that there is
a boundary of basicity beyond which CuO behaves differently.
