Abstract
It is demonstrated here that individual signal-averaged NMR spectra ca n be compared statistically in a rigorous fashion. This is accomplishe d by considering the ensemble of single acquisitions, which are summed to produce spectra. Applications of this concept include assessment o f the statistical significance of apparent metabolite variations in co ntrol preparations and quantitative comparison of signals obtained dur ing the fast response period in functional MRI.
