This paper presents a new configuration of high power density, high-ef
ficiency polyphase multipole permanent magnet motor and its control sy
stem. The mathematical model and simulation for this kind of motor dri
ve are presented in detail. The motor is essentially a kind of brushle
ss dc motor with novel arrangement of its magnet and winding. The cont
rol system is virtually a dual closed-loop system with current control
ler as inner loop and speed controller as outer loop. State-space equa
tions are used for the mathematical model of the motor, and real-time
simulation is applied for the controller and switching devices. The si
mulation results are verified with the experimental results and shown
to be very satisfactory.
