Gs. Karabashev, ON CONCENTRATION-DEPENDENCE OF CHLOROPHYLL FLUORESCENCE IN THE OCEANIC WATERS OF DIVERSE TROPHICITY, Okeanologia, 38(3), 1998, pp. 381-386
Concentration dependences of chlorophyll fluorescence are built from a
uniform set of 611 paired evaluations of the chlorophyll content in w
ater samples and measurements of its intensity in vivo fluorescence ca
rried out in the oligo-, meso-, and eutrophic regions in the tropical
zone of the ocean. It is shown that these dependences feature an initi
al-quasi linear portion and that fluorescence grows not so rapidly as
the concentration, if the latter exerts a threshold value of 1-2 mg/m(
3). Within the euphotic layer, this trend is not affected by light con
ditions and the depth. In contrast, the parameters of the linear regre
ssion of fluorescence on the chlorophyll substantially vary in the ini
tial portion in accordance with patterns of light adaptation of algae,
It is recommended to calibrate the fluorimetric equipment more freque
ntly in the areas of strong intermittence of waters of contrasting tro
phicity.
