Sa. Voronov et al., INFLUENCE OF THE CONDITIONS OF FORMATION ON THE STRUCTURE AND PHASE-COMPOSITION OF SUBSURFACE LAYERS OF URANIUM COATED WITH THE HIGH-TEMPERATURE OXIDE, Technical physics letters, 24(6), 1998, pp. 414-416
It is established by x-ray structure analysis that the oxide film form
ed on the surface of uranium during oxidation by dry oxygen at pressur
es of 0.1-0.001 Pa and temperatures of 500-700 degrees C for several h
ours consists of UO2 with U4O9 inclusions. Near the surface of the ura
nium the temperature of the alpha-->beta phase transition is lowered b
y 150-160 degrees C in comparison with the transition in the bulk of t
he metal, and the low-temperature stabilization of the beta phase of u
ranium is observed. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. [S1063-785
