Abstract
In most developing countries, the home frequently also serves as workp lace, as housing offers to many low-income households the means of acq uiring a modest but stable income at low risk. In this article, the au thor describes the most common types of home-based activities and give s an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of such small enterp rises, of their profitability and of the measures that could be taken both to ease the difficulties they encounter and to improve the fate o f the inhabitants.
