Ks. Ro et al., REMEDIATION COMPOSTING PROCESS PRINCIPLES - FOCUS ON SOILS CONTAMINATED WITH EXPLOSIVE COMPOUNDS, Critical reviews in environmental science and technology, 28(3), 1998, pp. 253-282
Composting is an emerging remediation technology for soils contaminate
d with hazardous chemicals; however, many aspects of the technology st
ill need to be evaluated before receiving full support from regulatory
agencies and scientific communities. In this article, we review remed
iation composting technology for soils contaminated with explosive com
pounds. This review includes biotransformation of explosives during co
mposting, relevant composting process principles and parameters involv
ing kinetics, mass and heat transfer, and energy balance.
