Abstract
We give Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials P-mu(nu) for all vexillary permuta tions mu (i.e. mu does not contain any substring jikh, i < j < h < k), and all v. We use the embedding of the symmetric group into its envel opping lattice, and the characterization of a permuation by the set of bigrassmannian ones which are below it with respect to the Ehresmann- Bruhat order.
