We report on an original technique for poling polymeric thin films, wh
ich allowed us to obtain a second-order nonlinear inverted domain stru
cture, which could be used for frequency-doubling waveguides under qua
si-phase-matching condition. Measurements of the local value and orien
tation of the electro-optic r(33) tensor component were performed by a
reflection microscopic electro-optic ellipsometer, The measured param
eters for the nonlinear structure induced in the polymeric film result
to be consistent with the expected values. (C) 1998 American Institut
