Abstract
In June 1997, Mekorot put into operation the first unit (8,000 m(3)/d) of a unique desalination plant, using a feed mixture of 80% raw seawa ter from the Red Sea and 20% of reject brine fi om an adjacent 36,000 m(3)/d BWRO plant. The final concentrate is supplied to nearby ponds o f a salt factory. This environmentally benign plant is characterized b y high energy efficiency and high cost effectiveness.
