Abstract
Intravascular catheter-related infections remain a significant cause o f morbidity and mortality despite clear guidelines on insertion and ca re, which should aid in their prevention. New approaches in the diagno sis of these infections, which do not require removal of the catheter, and novel technologies, including the application of antimicrobial ag ents to the catheter, have demonstrated some degree of success in prev ention.
