The hydrogen solubility and the thermodynamics of dissolved hydrogen i
n Ti0.45Fe0.45B0.1 were investigated in the ranges 0 less than or equa
l to P/bar less than or equal to 40 and 300 less than or equal to T/K
less than or equal to 450 and compared with those in TiFe. The hydroge
n intake capacity at any particular temperature and hydrogen equilibri
um pressure is larger in the alpha phase of Ti0.45Fe0.45B0.1-H compare
d to that in TiFe-H and nearly the same in the beta phase. The plateau
pressure in Ti-0.45 Fe0.45B0.1-H at any temperature is slightly highe
r than that in TiFe-H. The absolute values of the relative partial mol
ar enthalpy and entropy of the dissolved hydrogen in Ti0.45Fe0.45B0.1-
H are larger than those in TiFe-H. The exothermicity of hydrogen absor
ption decreases with the increase of hydrogen content in the a phase o
f Ti0.45Fe0.45B0.1-H and remains more or less constant in the alpha+be
ta phase. (C) 1998 International Association for Hydrogen Energy.
