Sj. Kolpatzik et al., THE LOCATION OF TEMPERATURE SENSORS IN PIPE FLOWS FOR DETERMINING THEMEAN GAS TEMPERATURE IN FLOW METERING APPLICATIONS, FLOW MEASUREMENT AND INSTRUMENTATION, 9(1), 1998, pp. 43-57
The work presented here is intended to indicate the optimum insertion
depth of temperature probes used in natural gas pipe flows. Other infl
uences as material layers in the protective pipe, working pressures an
d pipe wall temperatures are studied as well and recommendations for t
he optimum insertion depth are derived. Computational Fluid Dynamics (
CFD) on a 3D model using FLUENT 4.32 predicts the temperature with ver
y little deviation from measurements. CFD proves to be a very powerful
instrument for a quantitative analysis of flow meter instrumentation.
