Abstract
High resolution Fourier transform infrared spectra of the stretching f undamental (1000A(1)/F-2) as well as the first (2000A(1)/F-2) and seco nd (3000A(1)/F-2) stretching vibrational overtones of monoisotopic deu terated stannane, (SnD4)-Sn-120, were measured using a Bruker 120 HR i nterferometer. The symmetric top K structure of a prolate symmetric ro tor was observed in the second stretching vibrational overtone, which indicates that localization of vibration has occurred and the dynamic symmetry of the molecule has changed. Rotational analyses of the spect ra were performed, and the local mode relations obtained confirm that vibrational energy localization takes place in the second stretching v ibrational overtone of deuterated stannane. The results indicate a sur prisingly similar behavior of deuterated stannane and normal stannane. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. [S0021-9606(98)01322-1].
