Wj. Merryfield et al., DIFFERENTIAL VERTICAL TRANSPORT OF HEAT AND SALT BY WEAK STRATIFIED TURBULENCE, Geophysical research letters, 25(15), 1998, pp. 2773-2776
Numerical experiments are described in which overturning motions mix t
emperature and salt across stabilizing vertical gradients. In all inst
ances, mixing of temperature exceeds that of salt. Temperature and sal
inity fluxes can differ significantly, even when large compared to the
thermal conductive flux.
