Advection and diffusion of a substance around a curved obstacle is ana
lyzed when the advection velocity is large compared to the diffusion v
elocity, i.e., when the Peclet number is large. Asymptotic expressions
for the concentration are obtained by the use of boundary layer theor
y, matched asymptotic expansions, etc. The results supplement and exte
nd previous ones for straight obstacles. They apply to electrophoresis
, the how of ground water, chromatography, sedimentation, etc. (C) 199
