A biochemical oscillator involving feedback inhibition can be extended
to generate a chaotic attractor. The simple chaotic attractor may be
exploited to create signals of higher dimension by passive forcing of
other reactions. Diffusively coupled oscillators with negative feedbac
k exhibit regular and irregular patterns in time and space associated
with periodic and hyperchaotic attractors, respectively. (C) 1998 Acad
