Metallic photonic crystals have gaps starting from the null frequency.
They can be used as antenna substrates. Using two computer codes base
d on rigorous scattering theories, we investigate the properties of no
ndoped and doped two-dimensional metallic photonic crystals. We show n
umerically that such a structure can simulate a material that has a pl
asmon frequency in the microwave domain. Below this frequency the crys
tal is opaque and acts as a good reflector. These calculations confirm
both a conjecture made by specialists in solid-state physics and math
ematical considerations developed by specialists in limit analysis. (C
