The reproductive behavior of two populations of Artemia is analyzed, o
ne from San Quintin, Baja California, and the other from Yavaros, Sono
ra. In the interpopulation mating, alternating oviparous and ovovivipa
rous reproduction was observed, with the former dominating. In the San
Quintin intrapopulation crossbreeding, 100% oviparous reproduction wa
s observed. The intrapopulation fertility of Artemia from San Quintin
was 75% and from Yavaros, 82.35%. In the interpopulation female Yav/ma
le SQ crossbreeding, fertility was 73.3%, and in the female SQ/male Ya
v crossbreeding, 66%. It is concluded from these experiences that the
population from San Quintin is Artemia franciscana, although some dela
y was observed in the mating time with the Yavaros population, which s
uggests the beginning of a specific differentiation.
