Several studies [5,6] on the prevalence of psychiatric disorders among
migrants describe a higher rate of schizophrenic disorders. Other stu
dies [2,3] as well as DSM-IV [1] point out that affective disorders wi
th psychotic symptoms can be misdiagnosed as schizophrenic or schizoaf
fective disorders. We report on a patient admitted with the diagnosis
of paranoid schizophrenia (ICD-10: F20.0), discussing differential dia
gnostic criteria and the problems of diagnosing along ICD-10 criteria.
